Here are my Chillography at Kinetic 4 photos and videos. Many of them were taken by my lovely wife, so my performance with John Ames received a heavier emphasis than the rest of the event.
Gel-Sol at Kinetic 4

Here’s the first of mucho media that was captured at the Kinetic event. Gel-Sol played a fantastic, brain-melting ambient set to close out the night, and it was the perfect way to bring things to wind things down.

I now have a backlog of recorded Chillography sets that I need to get around to processing. Sets by Cotec, Bloom (live), Hendrik, Nelia, Rena Jones (live), Eckoe, Gel-Sol (live) and myself are patiently waiting to be released upon the world, so you fine people of chill can enjoy them as much as we did when they were first played. My music calendar is still fairly busy for the very near-term, but I really am hoping to get these out soon. Thanks for your continued support and patience!
Tonight :: Kinetic 4

It’s here! Kinetic 4 at the Pacific Science Center. We’ve been planning our portion of this event for sometime now and now it is time to make it all happen.
Chillography is excited to not only have the best room in the entire PSC for stage (freaking robot dinosaurs!), but also having perhaps our best line-up yet. This will not suck.
Full event info can be found here: http://www.nwtekno.org/showthread.php?t=142958.

5 Questions with Rena Jones
Posted by Crispy | Filed under 5 Questions
With Kinetic 4 just days away, this seems like a good time to post a 5 Questions interview with the Chillography Downtempo Dinosaur headliner, Rena Jones. For the few of you that are not wise to Rena’s incredible music, consider this a primer and an invitation to dig deeper into her catalog. For the rest of us, it offers a small look into her world an stokes the flame of excitement of seeing her perform live amongst the robot dinos.

How do you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
I try to avoid descriptions as you can never really explain music. If I have to, I tend to say electro-acoustic / classical / IDM….
Who and/or what influences your music the most?
That changes from album to album but right now I am listening to a lot of classical music and Bach’s compositions are really inspiring my current work in the studio.
In the past Murcof, Tipper, Talvin Singh, Telfon Telaviv, Amon Tobin, Tipper, Shpongle, Lamb, Boards of Canada, Mum, Efterklang, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Jaga Jazzist, Lusine, Helios, Tortoise, DJ Shadow, Richard Devine, Colleen, The Leaf Label, Ninja Tune, Marconi Union, Sigur Ros, Radio Head, Mark Deutsch, Deaf Center, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Dimitri Shastacovich, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Tosca, Goldfrapp, Sibelius….
What instruments, equipment and software are at work in the studio? What about your live setup?
In the studio I have a Moog Little Phatty, Laptop, Native Instruments Komplete, ProTools, violin, cello, hand drums, guitar and random toys that rotate often.
Live I perform with the laptop, Ableton Live, violin, cello and a controller and some pedals.
Beyond Kinetic 4, what’s next for you and your label, Cartesian Binary Recordings?
A performance at Lightning in a Bottle in May and am currently planning a Fall tour.
As for the label, I am currently working on a compilation, a new EP and remix EPs. Stay tunned as I hope to keep Cartesian Binary pretty busy.
Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your tunes?

SomaFM Pairs Ambient Music With Live Audio From NASA
Posted by Crispy | Filed under Cool Hunting, Music
What a fine idea!
SomaFM is broadcasting a live mix of ambient music and Shuttle Endeavour STS-130 Live Mission Audio all this week on Mission Control. The recent playlist has included past Chillography guests Gel-Sol and Osiris Indriya.
Note: Astronaut sleep periods are approximately from 6am pacific to 2pm pacific. There will be minimal mission audio at that time.
